Givenchy wows with prints and pendants
Givenchy played with prints and pendants for spring/summer 2017.
Creative director Riccardo Tisci presented his latest collection on Sunday night (02Oct16) at the plaza of the Museum national d’Histoire Naturelle as part of Paris Fashion Week.
Models took to a metallic runway surrounded with balloon light fixtures, while Tisci’s friends and muses, including Kim Kardashian, Gigi Hadid and Courtney Love watched on.
The show opened with a lineup of dresses with striking gemstone-inspired imagery, which were layered over nude slips. The use of gems was also evident in the large pieces of sliced geode stone which hung on heavy chain necklaces.
Tisci is often associated with using a black or dark colour scheme, but he used the spring collection to shake things up, and part way through the procession he opted to show groups of dots and striped dresses in a rainbow of colours.
Kendall Jenner wore a black wrap dress with a brightly coloured mandala motif printed on the hip, while other models rocked eye-catching rainbow striped dresses, with the floaty layering providing relief from the more serious pieces.
Also a departure for the designer was the presentation of a number of '60s mod shirt dresses, which had white collars and came in a retro red, deep plum and dusty brown prints. Though he did intersperse the collection with more colourful classic pieces, and tailored looks, such as suits worn by models Joan Smalls and Lea T., which had oversized pockets and wide-leg trousers.
Accessories were also fashion-forward, with models wearing pastel or brightly coloured socks with patent flats, which laced-up around the ankle.
Guido Palau styled the models' hair into low, slicked back chignons with strands glued to the forehead with gel, while Pat McGrath kept make-up to a minimum, presenting dewy skin and pencilled-in eyebrows.
