Gisele Bündchen: I was so naive

Gisele Bündchen can see how "young and naive" she was when she looks back at her beginnings in the modelling industry.

The 35-year-old Brazilian star has become one of the best known names in the industry and has been ranked the highest-paid model since 2004. October 2015 marks the eighth time she's covered Vogue Paris and to mark the occasion, the magazine quizzed Gisele on her career journey.

"When I started, I was so young and naive and really didn't understand the business like I do today. So, yes, you could say that my perception has changed," she admitted to en.vogue.fr.

"There are definitely things I would have done differently if I had known what I know now, but I guess I had to go through those experiences to gain that wisdom. I feel as though the hard times always bring opportunities for growth and that's ultimately what it's all about."

Maybe her slightly rocky start was down to the fact that modelling fell into her lap. She'd never considered a career on the catwalk, so wasn't even familiar enough with famous faces in the industry to pick any role models. These days she's far more clued up and can't even decide who she looks up to the most.

"I've met so many of them that it’s hard to choose just one!" she smiled. "I would say Christy Turlington, Kate Moss, Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell are some of my favourites."

Gisele has now formally retired from the runway and is channelling her modelling know-how into other ventures. But she's never too busy to work with French Vogue, recalling her first shoot with Mario Testino.

"He has always believed in me and has been one of my biggest supporters from the very beginning," she shared. "He's funny and kind and I have so much fun with him every time we're together!"
