Giles Deacon: Clothes should have impact

Giles Deacon likes a bit of razz when it comes to fashion.

The designer often puts on opulent runway shows, and is just at home creating dramatic gothic designs as he is frilly girly looks. Model of the moment Kendall Jenner often walks for him, and the style star is also the go-to label for the likes of Heidi Klum and Sarah Jessica Parker. When it comes to designing, bigger is better for Giles.

“I think people definitely have more fun, I know I do! It brings a great sense of occasion; it can give you that boost," he smiled to Britain's Instyle. "Everybody likes to feel that they’re looking great and interesting. I like things to have an impact, other designers go for the total opposite but that’s the thing I like. I think it can tell you a lot about peoples' characters. I like a bit of razz.”

Giles' style credentials go down well with his girlfriend, Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie, who often wears his namesake label on the red carpet. When it comes to his top dressing tips, Giles says channel your inner extrovert.

"Not a weird extrovert, it’s like great extroverts of our time such as Grace Jones; they look like they’re having a really good time but come across as very nice," he explained. "I think that’s the key to it.”

His first piece of advice is to look happy in your outfit, as enjoying yourself is key. He also says it's of maximum importance to wear a good lip but hardly any eye make-up. If in doubt, turn to a trusty deep red shade. Accessories are also a must, with bold jewellery, a bag or shoes his top choice. For the ladies scared to try colour with their clothes, Giles advises you go for an interesting cut.

“I think there’s no such thing as rules," he added. "Get those colours and prints clashed if that’s what you like and you’re comfortable with it. You can also go for monochrome and a print, it depends how flamboyant you’re feeling”
