Gigi: It's not all about looks

Gigi Hadid believes today's models need "a personality behind the face".

The 19-year-old is the model of the moment, having walked for big name designers like Chanel and working with major beauty brands including Maybelline. She was also named Model of the Year at the Fashion LA Awards in January.

But Gigi thinks the current crop of models need more to them than just a pretty aesthetic.

"I think it's important to be yourself," she told the British edition of Vogue. "Let the world know your style. That's how style stars are born. These days, models get to have a personality behind the face."

Gigi isn't the only catwalk darling in her family, as younger sister Bella is also signed to IMG Models. As well as being close to her sibling, the star is good pals with celebrities including Taylor Swift and fellow models Kendall Jenner and Hailey Baldwin. With a diverse range of friends, Gigi is getting to see what other options are out there for her beyond the catwalk, and she has firm plans to transition into other genres.

"Once I'm done modelling I want to be able to do other things, definitely in the entertainment industry - maybe hosting my own fashion or cooking show," she confessed to the publication.

Her showbiz ambitions are also an aside to the fact that she is studying for a degree in criminal psychology at a New York university.

"I'm obsessed!" she grinned when asked about her studies.
