Gigi Hadid 'thrilled' to release Stuart Weitzman boot

Gigi Hadid found it a “thrill” to collaborate with Stuart Weitzman.

The 21-year-old model appeared in a campaign for the brand alongside Lily Aldridge and Joan Smalls earlier this year (16) and in September (16) it was announced she’d designed a boot for the label.

Now the ankle-high design has been unveiled, available in silver, copper and a black snakeskin print with laces around the top and studs down the front. Costing between $565 and $595 (£462 and £487), they’re presented in boxes with a special design by Gigi herself.

“This experience has been such a thrill, from choosing the style to selecting materials to creating the signature box. I am so excited to finally share these boots and be able to wear them myself,” she told WWD.

Profits from the boots will be given to the charity Pencils of Promise, a non-profit organisation aiming to build new schools in developing countries. And designer Stuart has pledged to build three new facilities, in Laos, Guatemala and Ghana.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better way to further my partnership with Stuart Weitzman than to get creative, and am so happy to know the boots I designed will be helping kids through the non-profit organisation, Pencils of Promise. I’m truly proud of this collaboration from all angles,” Gigi added.

To help promote the boots, actor James Franco was invited to direct a short advertisement video starring Gigi, which opens with the shoes hanging from a cable in the street. It then cuts to Gigi entering Gleason’s Gym in Brooklyn, where she begins to box various male opponents while wearing the boots.

The fashionista is a keen boxer herself and threw punches for around 12 hours the day of filming the clip, but luckily James was on hand to help.

“I was obviously so tired toward the end of the shoot, and James was just super positive, and told me to embrace whatever I was feeling at that moment,” she told Vogue.com.

The boots will be available to purchase at midnight on Tuesday (25Oct16).
