Gigi Hadid’s success explained

Gigi Hadid is so successful because she "takes nothing for granted", claims the editor of Vogue Australia.

The 20-year-old model is experiencing a surge of popularity that has seen her cast as the face of Maybelline and walk on runways all over the world.

Edwina McCann's magazine celebrated the young star in its June issue and the editor-in-chief revealed why she thinks the pretty blonde is at the top of her game.

"The June issue of Vogue Australia is all about the spirit of sweet youth. It’s fronted by Gigi Hadid, another perfect example of a young model who works hard and takes nothing for granted," she explained to

"The issue features an insightful interview with Gigi, who talks to Vogue about the importance of social media to her brand, how it’s big business. We also look at whether it is in fact possible to rekindle the youthful vigour that we yearn for as adults."

While Gigi hails from the US, Australia also has plenty of home-grown models to be proud of. Edwina counts Elle Macpherson, Megan Gale and Miranda Kerr among her most iconic and reflected on the way the industry has changed over the years.

"Vogue features and news director Zara Wong wrote a fascinating piece in the June/July issue off the back of her interview with Gigi that looks at the business of modelling over the decades," she mused.

"First came the supermodels with their own personal brands, then the anti-models (including Kate Moss, who refused interviews), and now we have the Insta-models whose social media accounts of their lives make up a large part of their appeal to clients and followers alike. They’re smart, savvy, healthy, and on the move."
