Gigi Hadid designed her Tommy Hilfiger collection in just seven hours
Gigi Hadid only spent around seven hours designing for her collaboration with Tommy Hilfiger.
The model has teamed up with the American fashion designer for the TommyxGigi line, which features a range of cosy knits, star-print dresses, military-inspired dresses, nautical stripes and sporty undergarments.
Gigi, 21, was honoured to work alongside “supportive and welcoming” Tommy on the designs, which she says represent her “California beach-girl vibes” in a fun and chic way. And she would be delighted to collaborate with the 65-year-old designer again on another line, though may need to allocate more time in her busy schedule to do so.
“I would love to do another collection with Tommy and one day, I would love to design on my own,” she told Harper’s Bazaar. “This was the perfect first experience for me though, because it takes away a lot of that pressure as they already know how to execute it. I stayed six hours longer than my contracted one hour, so I was still really involved in the whole process but it wasn't as daunting as it could have been.”
The TommyxGigi collection will be unveiled at a two-day event set to take place on South Street Seaport’s Pier 16 in downtown Manhattan, New York - rebranded “Tommy Pier” on Friday (09Sep16). Following the carnival-inspired launch, every item seen on the runway will be instantly available to buy globally on Tommy.com and at 300 Tommy Hilfiger stores around the world.
And Gigi is glad the range will be available at online retailers because she’s a big fan of Internet shopping.
"I don't really like going shopping properly because trying on clothes is my job, so I only really do online shopping. I also think it's really fun that we got to launch it in this way,” she explained.
