Giambattista Valli's frothy Fall 16 show

Giambattista Valli put on a frothy, frilly display at Paris’ Haute Couture Fashion Week.

The Italian designer wowed his runway audience, which included a clearly impressed Celine Dion, with a show full of billowing sleeves, demure chiffon and jaw-dropping ruffles, reminiscent of a wedding cake.

Valli's show kicked off with models wearing shades of white and cream, adorned with pretty floral details. Designs then gave way to lace offerings and baby doll dresses, with puffed out sleeves seen on numerous creations.

Many of the dresses were above the knee, with the soft and floaty fabrics, organza, taffeta and chiffon, adding a dream like sense to proceedings.

Colour was added in the form of a pink furry jacket, complete with red ruffled wrist and neck detail. A pair of red cigarette trousers with a contrasting pink midriff baring top also added some colour to the event. The top was in keeping with the collection, and featured puffed out sleeves that billowed from the shoulder.

The drama came later in the show, with Valli's signature tiered ruffles making an appearance. For his Fall 16 line the statement tulle ruffles were worked into a light blue cape and a floor sweeping gown, shown in grey, burgundy and white.

Ralph & Russo also showed in the French capital on Monday (04Jul16), attracting the likes of Jourdan Dunn, Adriana Lima and Lil' Kim to its front row.

The British label is known for its fairytale gowns, loved by the likes of Angelina Jolie and Beyonce, but added a new dimension to its offerings with hats adorning models’ heads as they strutted the catwalk.

Dreamy materials like tulle, chiffon and lace were all heavily utilised, with a showstopping bridal look using all three for a stunning silhouette. The fishtail design featured a cape, which fell into the train, made up of organza flowers and micro beads. The magical dress was almost sheer in appearance and was finished off with a lace veil and floral headpiece.
