Giambattista Valli creates couture for MAC
Giambattista Valli was the perfect choice to help MAC "graduate to couture" because he's like family to the firm.
Skincare and make-up giant the Estée Lauder Group owns the popular cosmetics brand, which is well known for collaborations with high-end fashion designers and style experts.
Following in the footsteps of Prabal Gurung, Sophia Amoruso and Philip Treacy, Giambattista Valli is the latest to join forces with the make-up label.
“It’s the first time we’ve graduated to couture. Giambattista is a friend and family," Estée Lauder Group president John Demsey told style.com.
"We’ve been following him since [Emanuel] Ungaro, and when he launched his house ten years ago, we were there to help him conceptualise and style the shows. Now he’s conceptualised an amazing collection for us.”
Giambattista's MAC offering comprises of five lip shades in matte, with a clear gloss also available to give each of the looks a shiny alternative.
The collaboration was announced in November and will finally be available from tomorrow.
Saying yes to the idea required little thought for the celebrated designer.
"My idea was ‘dress your lips in Giambattista Valli’. There is nothing more revolutionary in a woman’s wardrobe than changing the colour of your lips, and these [colours] are my five favourites," Giambattista smiled.
The shades range from a whitish pink through to a black cherry hue.
There was a lavish party last to celebrate the collection, with stars such as Jessica Alba in attendance.
“I love it all - the clothes, the lipsticks," Jessica gushed. "I’m never afraid of colour!”
