Georgina Chapman's love of classic British style

Marchesa co-founder Georgina Chapman is constantly inspired by classic British style.

The London-born designer established the high end womenswear label with Keren Craig back in 2004, and has since gone on to garner a celebrity following, with the likes of Penelope Cruz, Blake Lively and Sandra Bullock all fans of the duo's gowns.

Though Marchesa's headquarters are in New York, Chapman loves to return to her hometown, where she finds the "always classic" style and cityscape to be particularly stimulating.

When in London, the mother-of-two, who is married to movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, always ensures she packs a pair of sneakers, as she tends to do a lot of walking when she's in the capital.

"When I lived in London I would always prefer to walk places rather than drive so I could experience the true ambiance of the city," she told Harper's Bazaar. "I find the culture and energy of London to be very inspiring, particularly the gardens, parks and architecture. It is a city best seen on foot, so a good pair of trainers is a must-pack."

However, in case she needs to attend an industry event while in town, Chapman will also ensure she packs a pair of heels that can be worn during the day as well as in the evening.

The 40-year-old prefers a classic silhouette in black when it comes to high heels, and loves Marchesa's Margaret sandals, which feature a mid-height heel and laser-cut detailing. She's also a big fan of a statement jacket at the moment, such as the unique hand-embroidered and hand-painted leather bikers Gucci makes.

Interestingly, Chapman notes that British women tend to wear hats much more than their American counterparts. "Whenever I'm travelling back to the UK I'm always sure to pack at least one of Eugenia Kim's fantastic wool fedoras," she shared.
