Francisco: How I made Kendall's Met Gala dress
Francisco Costa only showed Kendall Jenner one dress for the Met Gala.
This year's fashion extravaganza took place at the beginning of the week and was themed China: Through the Looking Glass. Kendall attended wearing a shimmering green gown by Calvin Klein, with the label's designer revealing the choice was an easy one.
"We only showed Kendall one option - the perfect one," Francisco explained to People magazine. "We wanted her to feel sexy, luxurious and confident.”
Kendall is the face of the fashion house, so it was natural she wore one of its dresses to the event.
It was a custom design which took around a month to create and featured criss-cross lace-up detailing at the side, from hip bone to armpit. Although the floor-length piece might look pretty simple, it's actually covered in bugle beads to make it shimmer in the light. They were "smoke coloured" according to the designer, so they complemented the shade of the gown perfectly.
"I wanted the colour of the dress to resemble jade, which to me is very emblematic of China," Francisco explained.
"The lace-up detail on the sides makes the dress more delicate, and emphasises Kendall’s already amazing shape.”
Francisco shared some shots of the fitting process with the publication, including one which shows him placing the spaghetti side straps in place. To ensure they were in the perfect position he used safety pins to hold them before they were sewn.
The dress was praised by fashion critics and it seems Kendall was thrilled with it too. She used Twitter to publicly thank Francisco for making her something so special.
"thank you @CalvinKlein @costafrancisco for making me feel so great last night (sic)," she wrote.
