Emilia Wickstead's floral infused little black dress
Emilia Wickstead made sure there was a little black dress in her capsule collection with Matches Fashion.
The New Zealand-born designer has partnered with the style site to launch a summery line, filled with floral dresses and pretty patterned skirts.
One of her favourite picks from the collection is a calf-grazing black dress, adorned with a red rose pattern. While it doesn’t look like the conventional little black dress, for Emilia the Carrie floral-print midi dress ticks all the right boxes.
“It was important that we had a little black dress in this collection, and to incorporate with that the beautiful floral that is throughout the capsule collection. So for me, this is it,” she told Matches. “It’s got our signature little pleat around the collar, and the centre-front seam, which I think gives it a little bit of punch – makes it modern. It’s a really great, easy dress."
The capsule line is infused with Emilia’s signature looks, including pleats, cap sleeves and collared looks.
Talking about the Juliet floral and striped-print dress, a knee length floral design, Emilia points out that it bears the hallmarks of her typical creations.
“Since I started, pleats have been a part of every collection. I love the pleated skirt, the high waist – it’s not too high, but it’s at that really flattering point. The pleats almost fall onto the body, which is gorgeous,” she smiled. “I love a stripe but I also wanted to make sure that the prints and colours felt a little bit vintage-y, too. This makes it feel fresh and young, but there’s a bit of nostalgia behind it.”
