Edie Campbell's functional fashion
Edie Campbell discounts any outfit she couldn’t run from monsters in.
The 24-year-old model isn’t just into clothes because of her job; she loves picking what to wear and coming up with kooky ensembles outside of work too. There are several things she considers when getting dressed, and comfort is right at the top of the list.
“It’s kind of boyish – quite simple,” she told British magazine InStyle of her personal look. “I like to be comfortable and I don’t like the idea that something I’m wearing might prevent me from doing anything, like running from monsters or for the train.”
Edie is the new face of the H&M Studio campaign and she’s also worked for the likes of Alexander McQueen, Burberry and Christian Dior. Although not all models love their job, as it’s so determined by their appearance, Edie feels blessed to have her work.
“It’s a good gig. It takes a minute to get over the initial self-consciousness of being expected to perform, but you get to work with amazing people, earn money and travel the world,” she explained.
That said, the star wants people to know it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. Although she walks in shows Edie sometimes attends them too and is very clear that isn’t always all it’s cracked up to be. As she sees it, part of the problem is when designers forget that fashion should be fun first and foremost.
“Fashion shows can be really fun – kind of like going to a ten-minute rave – and really beautiful, so they can be quite boring. When I get to write reviews for magazines, I try and look at the comedy of it all because Fashion Week can take itself very seriously!” she said.
