Dsquared2 to present co-ed fashion shows
Dsquared2 are to merge men’s and women’s collection presentations.
Brand co-founders and designers Dean and Dan Caten announced they are to unveil both lines at a co-ed fashion show to be held during Milan Men’s Fashion Week in January and June next year (17).
The Canadian-born twins said the move was part of their commitment to innovating within the traditional fashion industry calendar.
“We would like to give the women’s collection more time in the stores,” Dan told Business of Fashion. “By showing her earlier, we get her on the floor earlier.”
The duo added that the decision to present the collections together will further connect the two sides of the business, which often share common creative inspirations.
In fact, Dean and Dan share that the new approach is a natural move as they tend to design with the Dsquared2 man and the Dsquared2 woman in mind and vice versa.
“We’re trying to keep them very brother- and sister-like — we shoot them together as a campaign so it makes it easier for us to keep the theme together and keep the collection cohesive,” added Dan.
The Caten brothers showed their spring/summer 2017 women’s line on Sunday night (25Sep16) as part of Milan Fashion Week. And there was something for everyone in the range, with the pair choosing bold patterns and fabrics. For instance, leopard print was seen on a skirt and a jacket, while gingham covered shirts and sleeves. They didn’t hold back on the sparkle either, with a Swarovski studded jacket, a bedazzled pair of distressed denim trousers and a crest-emblazoned blazer standing out.
Sequins, taffeta, denim, and stripes all featured, with the models walking out to a soundtrack of opera and house music, reflecting the show’s eclectic feel.
