DSquared2: Bringing sexy back

DSquared2 designers Dean and Dan Caten wanted to inject "a lot of sexy" into their Spring/Summer 16 collection.

The fashion star twins showed their latest line during Milan Fashion Week on Saturday (26Sep15). It featured a provocative beach look, with models hitting the runway with wet-look hair, colourful bondage dresses and flower garlands.

There was plenty of colour and some flowing material in the form of dreamy skirts and now the siblings have opened up about creating the fun pieces.

"Colourful, sexy, rich, scuba, techno, surfing babes!" they summed it up to en.vogue.fr.

"There's a soft moment of fluidity with the chiffon things kind of flowing, covering these prints that are aggressive... Plastic ruffles and big plastic flowers and earrings... There's a lot of colour a lot of shine, a lot of sexy - it's really young, fresh, modern, cool!"

This aggressively sexy line is a representation of the kind of woman they are designing for. The fashionable twins have also created new perfume Want, which is all about empowering females.

Usually they make a male equivalent, but the focus was all on women this time.

“It’s hers,” Dan told WWD. “It has nothing to do with a men’s fragrance, like we’ve done in the past; she wanted her own fragrance, and she’s getting it… She’s not like a submissive, subjugated woman. She’s got balls.”

The perfume will be available globally from next year (16) but they are particularly targeting Mexico and Argentina.

Photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin are behind the accompanying campaign, which stars model Rianne ten Haken. In it she looks at the camera while holding a lollipop.

“I think the contrast between the product and the campaign is a really good balance of who we are as a brand,” Dan said.
