Donatella Versace urges young designers to embrace change

Donatella Versace urges aspiring designers to be open to change.

The 61-year-old helms brand Versace as well as its diffusion line Versus, both of which take up the majority of her time.

For those looking to follow in her footsteps and run their own company, Donatella points out one must embrace changes in order to be a big hit.

"Be willing to evolve if you want to succeed," she told Vogue.com when discussing her life lessons. "Every fashion brand, just like every company, has to evolve if it is to succeed. Nothing can stay the same in business, and nothing ever stays the same in fashion."

The platinum blonde sartorial star loves the challenge of running Versace, noting that it’s a place of endless possibilities.

Although she stresses the importance of adapting to the current climate, that doesn’t mean she thinks people shouldn’t follow their instincts.

"I know that I am at my best when I am true to myself, and have a strong point of view," she added. "There have been times in the past when I had doubts, or was cautious, and that then showed in my work. Each season I have to have the confidence in myself, and the strength to push Versace forward. It is hard work, but the results are clear to me."

Another important piece of advice Donatella shared was to be "fearless in everything", insisting that there should be no compromise. She channels this outlook into her creations too, seeing it as her duty as a designer to encourage women’s “individuality and power”.

Fans can read more about her opinions and tips in her book Versace, which was released last month (Oct16).
