Denise Bidot: VS needs a plus-size Angel
Denise Bidot thinks Victoria's Secret should use a curvy model to embrace diversity.
The 29-year-old beauty is a successful plus-size model in the industry and has posed for the likes of Levi's, Nordstrom and Lane Bryant.
Lingerie giant Victoria's Secret announced its ten new Angels earlier this year, with Elsa Hosk and Martha Hunt just two of the new stars to join the line-up. Denise has no desire to be part of the brand, but does think it should branch out more with its casting.
"I think if they did go ahead and include a plus-sized Angel, I think it would be such a huge statement from Victoria's Secret especially cause for so long, as a curvy woman, I haven't been able to shop there, able to fit in a lot of their stuff," she told E! News.
"I think it would be a way to embrace us and make us feel like they get it... They get we're beautiful and they are embracing all sorts of sizes and diversity."
Denise does enjoy watching the annual fashion show though and remembers when Tyra Banks first took to the runway for the label in 1997 at a US size 6. Denise thinks the supermodel was full of power and made every woman feel beautiful with her curvy physique.
Fashion stars these days win over fans with their social media profiles and models such as Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner are known for interacting with their fans online. Denise thinks it's a great move that is changing the business.
"It's so funny how social media has really changed the way our industry works. I mean we used to go into a casting and it really didn't matter what you were wearing - but so much of it's social media and people are taking behind the scene pictures and videos and there is so much press everywhere and it's really cool to see people really care about the models and really put us forward," she added.
