David Jones launches magazine and app
Australian department store David Jones has launched a magazine and app.
The shop, which welcomed Aussie model Jesinta Campbell as its latest ambassador earlier this year (16) and has featured Miranda Kerr on the runway before, has 40 branches across the country. And fashion fans can now get even more from the brand, with a quarterly print magazine and weekly app called Jones.
“Meet JONES, a magazine that empowers you to embrace your own individual style #JonesEdit,” the store tweeted on Monday (15Aug16).
The first issue features Australian actress Elizabeth Debicki on the cover, in a stunning black and white side profile photo. The title, Jones, is written in pink capital lettering, making it pop off of the otherwise monochrome cover.
Edited by Deborah Bibby, who previously worked as the editor-in-chief of Bauer Media Australia’s Real Living and Homes+ magazines, and with Thelma McQuillan (formerly at Harper’s Bazaar Australia) in the fashion director role, the team has high hopes for the new title.
“I think everyone’s expecting a magazine version of the catalogue and it’s not,” Deborah said in a statement. “It looks exactly like a magazine, it’s very editorial.”
The first issue, for Spring, is 108 pages and has had a print run of 250,000, with 120,000 copied mailed to David Jones American Express Platinum Card. Currently Marie Claire Australia is the country’s highest selling magazine, shifting 80,422 copies a month.
Jones can be picked up in store as a gift with purchase, or sold over the counter, and will also be available in newsagents around Australia.
David Jones is owned by Woolworths South Africa, and will be celebrating its 180th anniversary in 2018.
