Daria Werbowy: Modelling can be intense

Daria Werbowy took a break from modelling because she needed to escape the "intensity" of her job.

The Ukrainian-Canadian fashion star won a modelling contest at the age of 14 and went on to work with labels including Prada, Valentino and Versace.

However, in 2009 she took a break from work, making her return in 2014. She's previously expressed fears about perpetuating vanity through modelling and has now explained why it was the right decision.

"I think when you do anything for a long period of time at the intensity I was doing it, it’s the natural course to have to step outside of it," she revealed to The Coveteur.

"I think I would’ve probably done that regardless, no matter what I was doing. I’ve been a seeker my whole life. Sometimes I feel like saying being a seeker is bad, because that means you’re never happy or never satisfied, but I started doing this really young and there were a lot of things that I missed because of that. It was just a time to really step back."

The break helped Daria refocus and she spent a lot of time indulging her adventurous side. In 2011 she even began a two-month expedition in Guatemala, also visiting Central America and Costa Rica.

"Yeah, I think I’ve prioritised my life and my relationship to work in a completely different way after I came back from the first time I f**ked off for a while," she laughed.

"I’ve made so much more room for that stuff, so it definitely has changed. It’s made my life a lot fuller in a lot of ways and a lot more, it’s actually made me enjoy work more in a lot of ways, it totally has made me appreciate it more. It’s made me way more appreciative."
