Consuelo Castiglioni has exited Marni
Consuelo Castiglioni is departing her post at Marni.
Castiglioni, who has been at the helm of the label for more than 20 years, confirmed her exit in a statement released on Friday (21Oct16). Francesco Risso is replacing her as creative director.
The Swiss-born designer started the Italian fashion house with husband Gianni Castiglioni in 1994, and despite having no formal training in fashion, helped make the brand a globally recognised label.
In her statement, the celebrated designer thanked her family for their constant support.
“These were hectic and exciting years which absorbed all of my energies to create a project I am proud of,” she said.
“Thanks also to the constant support of my family who allowed me to stay true to my idea, I built a brand with a precise and recognisable identity.
“The time has now come to dedicate myself to my private life. I thank all the people who believed in this project and who, with loyal dedication, have helped me along this fantastic journey.”
In her role as the creative director of Marni, Castiglioni won praise for her sophisticated designs, earning a cult global following and a raft of A-list fans, including Meryl Streep, Anna Wintour and Kendall Jenner.
In 2015, fashion company OTB Group took full control of Marni. OTB is also the parent company of Diesel, Maison Margiela, Viktor & Rolf and Dsquared2.
Marni showed at Milan Fashion Week in September (16), with a line made up of block colours, billowing fabrics and its famed printed patterns.
Talking about the success of her luxury label earlier this year, Consuelo said it’s her ability to trust her own instincts which has paved the way for her career.
In recent years Marni has also expanded into the beauty market, launching its first fragrance in 2013.
