Christopher Kane: I've finally made it!

Christopher Kane has only recently felt like he's made it.

The British designer helms his namesake label, which is the go-to brand for stars such as Alexa Chung, Emma Watson and Chloë Grace Moretz.

Despite his success both on the runway and red carpet, Christopher only recently had his "made it" moment.

"Well, when I opened my store in March. That was the moment. When I actually opened the door and it was completely finished," he smiled to British InStyle.

"It's my world. It's my retail experience. I've worked with wholesalers, and I wouldn't be here without them, but for me to have my own store is my own world, and me and Tammy [his sister and business partner] will be able to dictate what happens. It's great."

Christopher and Tammy established their fashion house in 2006, the same year Christopher graduated from London's prestigious Central Saint Martins College.

Over his career the label has been awarded countless accolades, including New Designer of The Year at the 2007 British Fashion Awards and later Womenswear Designer at the 2013 ceremony.

But becoming an uncle to Tammy's young daughter Bonnie seems to have had the biggest impact on his work. "[Being an uncle has changed my design process] in the sense that being close to kids opens up a whole new world of inspiration; for example, with the bright colours of their toys... Bonnie's just a character and being around children is so inspiring because they're just so... honest. Ruthless. They're so ruthless, and they can really get what they want," he laughed.

"I'm thinking, 'God, was I like that?' But then it's also good to see a small version of Tammy."
