Chanel visits Paris with latest show
Chanel's Métiers d'Art show featured a set which looked like a Parisian neighbourhood on Tuesday evening (01Dec15).
The fashion label's creative director Karl Lagerfeld is renowned for going all out with his presentations, with his take on Pre-Fall no exception. The show took place at Rome's iconic Cinecittà, but it was clear that Italy didn't serve as inspiration. Instead the backdrop was a series of Paris streets, complete with a brasserie, boulangerie, cinema, restaurants and a metro station.
On hand to help mark the occasion were Rooney Mara and Kristen Stewart, who sat to watch proceedings at bistro tables. Kristen was there to mark the release of Chanel short film Once and Forever, in which she plays an actress who is cast as iconic designer Coco Chanel.
Big names also graced the catwalk, with Bella Hadid making her Chanel debut. She was in good company as she strutted her stuff alongside the likes of Freja Beha Erichsen, Lara Stone, Molly Bair, Sam Rollinson and Lindsey Wixson. Also on hand to mark the event were the Kroenig family, including child model and godson of Karl, Hudson Kroenig.
The clothes were all about texture, with ruffles, appliqué and fringing all big news. There was also a healthy dose of leather and tweed, along with lace tights and shoes which were embellished with pearls on the straps.
A typical look saw a model in a black silk shirt which fell to mid thigh, worn over a pair of delicately-patterned black lace tights and nothing else. Covering her was a full-length monochrome tweed jacket, worn draped over the shoulders, with a long, beaded necklace and thick kohled eyes finishing the look.
The overriding colours were black, white and grey, with thick knits with funnel necks teamed with pencil skirts made of thin leather and delicate tweed jackets cinched at the waist with wide belts.
