Chanel launches XS version of J12 watch
Chanel is going even smaller with its new version of the J12 ceramic watch, launching an XS model.
The new wrist piece will measure at just 19 millimetres in diameter, echoing the name J12 XS which is a word play on ‘extra-small’ and ‘excess’.
The J12 XS is the latest update of the iconic watch, which was launched in 1999 by Chanel’s late artistic director Jacques Helleu and also includes the J12-G10 timepiece.
It will come in four versions, starting with a black or white version with a slim, patent leather calfskin strap. This can be worn on its own or over a matching calfskin cuff with a silver lining, retailing at $4,975 (£3,742).
Another design is paired with black, lambskin fingerless gloves by Causse boutique. Just 150 pieces will be made available priced at $7,550 (£5677) a pair. The gloves are a nod to Chanel’s creative director Karl Lagerfeld, famed for his love of the accessory.
Also available is a chunky cuff design, with six slim leather straps mounted with the watch dial and steel loops boasting diamonds. High jewellery designs such as a novelty ring, with the pieces priced between $10,000 (£7,520) and $105,000 (£78,946), will also be available to buy.
French embroidery company Lesage, which already works on some of Chanel’s watches, provides inspiration for the final option. Lesage’s hand-decorated cuffs for the J12 XS, complete with glass beads and sequins, give the illusion of alligator, python and shagreen. A snip at $38,000 (£28,571) each.
Chanel first unveiled the pieces on last month (Jul16) in New York and next up the brand has a presentation in South Korea on Thursday (04Aug16), followed by stops in Shanghai, Tokyo and Hong Kong.
The watches will be available in stores from the end of this month (Aug16).
