Carolyn Murphy's modest lingerie line
Carolyn Murphy is launching a lingerie line.
The 40-year-old model is no stranger to stripping down to her smalls for her work, having posed for the Pirelli Calendar and various magazine shoots.
But she feels the lingerie market has become too racy, so has decided to take matters into her own hands by creating a range with British label Cheek Frills. With ten pieces launching in July, Carolyn hopes she will change people's perception of undergarments.
“Lingerie is something that should be feminine and delicate - I think it’s gone so sexual,” she sighed to WWD. “As a woman, I don’t want to be projected in that way... It's keeping everything quite light."
Bras, panties and even teddies are included in the range, which uses solely organic dye.
Carolyn and the brand's co-founder Katie Canvin discussed the venture last year after meeting in the Hamptons. After sharing her woes about struggling to find pieces suitable for her daughter Dylan, 14, to wear, Carolyn and Katie approached fellow Cheek Frills co-founder Lily Fortescue with ideas for a vintage underwear range.
“I was inspired by David Hamilton’s photographs and his book Sisters, and had kind of dreamed of having that tiny strap along a negligee that we’ve done - everything’s quite delicate," Carolyn smiled.
Designs include Breton stripes, lace-edged pieces and a dandelion pattern.
Prices range from £35 ($55) to £95 ($150). Customers can purchase them online on Net-a-porter.com from mid-July or at stores such as Selfridges in London, UK, and la Rinascente in Milan. It will launch in the US next year.
