Carolina Herrera wows with effortlessly elegant bridal show
Carolina Herrera has presented a gorgeous collection of bridal gowns and outfits "inspired by the woman of today".
At an intimate party held at the House of Herrera on Monday (18Apr16), the 77-year-old designer unveiled an impossibly elegant spring 2017 wedding gown collection. In a leafy diorama erected in the brand's showroom, guests were treated to a runway line-up which was sophisticated in its simplicity.
In a statement, Herrera said the bridal collection was all about "romance and femininity in new forms" and looked to combine "simplicity with sophistication, effortless elegance with meticulous craftsmanship, and modern refinement with timeless grace."
The designer, who has dressed the First Lady Michelle Obama for various occasions, stuck with her signature clean lines and smooth skirts for more classic white wedding options. But even her traditional princess styles had a fresh vibe to them, such as one look with a nude tulle underlay and cascading floral appliques along the bodice. While her tailored, modern dresses had sheer corsets, layered tulle and floral touches.
The jaw-dropper of this collection was a flawless A-line number with Herrera's signature collared button-up blouse, a dramatic front split and satin ribbon belt, taking casual-chic to whole new level which other designers will undoubtedly pick up on.
Elsewhere, a modern ballgown featuring ivory and cream stripes with beaded bodice and oversized bow, stunned.
And for the more daring bride, Herrera presented a sleek backless sheath, accented with an exaggerated bow and sheer delicate fabric.
The more effortless looks took inspiration from Herrera's signature ready-to-wear styles, including a simple ivory crepe pantsuit with pearl buttons which was styled for dramatic contrast under a floral-embellished veil and matching white pumps which prompted visions of Audrey Hepburn - classy and classic!
