Calvin Klein to merge men and women's shows

Calvin Klein is the latest brand to merge its menswear and womenswear presentations.

The American label's fall 17 runway extravaganza will take place on 10 February 2017 during New York Fashion Week, WWD reports. Not only will it mark the first presentation by new chief creative officer Raf Simons, who was appointed in August (16), but it's also the first time Calvin Klein will show both collections together.

Guests will feast their eyes upon both the women's and men's ready-to-wear ranges, as well as accessories on the catwalk. Campaigns for the designs are to launch in the Big Apple and Paris shortly after the runway show.

New York is the setting for another notable change for Simons himself too as he will be showing his namesake menswear range during NYFW: Men's for the first time on 1 February (17), having previously presented in Paris.

Calvin Klein's decision to combine both lines comes soon after the news that Bottega Veneta will be doing the same as of next year (17). The company described the move as a "natural evolution" after the success of its combined Spring/Summer 17 show in September (16), which also celebrated its 50th anniversary and creative director Tomas Maier's 15th year at the brand.

To celebrate the half a century achievement Maier sent 15 bag styles from Bottega Veneta's archive down the catwalk, including a red clutch modelled by Lauren Hutton which she used in movie American Gigolo.

Other fashion houses which have merged both lines are Paul Smith and Dsquared2, however the latter also chose to move to the men's calendar for its presentations too.
