Betsey Johnson to be honoured by CFDA

Betsey Johnson is to receive a lifetime achievement CFDA Award.

Those in the running for the prestigious prizes were announced by CFDA president Diane von Furstenberg at Top of the Rock in New York City last night.

Betsey was thrilled to be honoured with the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award, leaping on stage to show her appreciation with a speech.

"This deserves a cartwheel @xobetseyjohnson is the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award! (sic)," the organisation posted on Twitter, referencing the 72-year-old designer's penchant for acrobatics on the runway.

One surprise came in the form of this year's Media Award winner, with company Instagram honoured. Other big prizes will go to Valentino creative directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli, who are claiming the International Award, and J.Crew's CEO Mickey Drexler who will pick by the Founders Award.

Aside from those, many of the usual suspects picked up nominations.

In the best womenswear category Joseph Altuzarra for Altuzarra, Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Ashley Olsen and Mary-Kate Olsen for The Row and Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough for Proenza Schouler all got mentions.
