Betsey Johnson launches fun collection for kids
Betsey Johnson can’t wait to see her children’s designs on “little kiddos everywhere”.
The American designer is known for both her eccentric designs and fun-filled demeanour, and tends to end her runway shows by cart wheeling at the end of the catwalk. The 73-year-old has now channelled her colourful personality into a range of children’s clothes.
The line is in collaboration with Babies R' Us, and will feature the staples Betsey has become known for; tulle, faux fur and sparkles.
“I am thrilled to partner with Babies R' Us on launching my first baby collection! I can’t wait to see my designs on little kiddos everywhere,” she beamed in a statement.
She also took to her Instagram account to let fans know the designs are now live. Alongside a sweet snap of a toddler, dressed in animal print leggings and black knitted sweater with oversized patches on, Betsey posted: “Special Announcement!! You can now shop my super cute kiddo line which was made in collab with the amazing @babiesrus team! Shop it on babiesrus.com/betseyjohnson today. XoX #BetseyJohnsonKiddos #BRUFashion.”
Other items in the collection include a pink furry baseball jacket, pastel coloured tutu skirt and plaid leggings with a heart motif.
Betsey told WWD that the new line embodies both sides of her; pretty and girly and tomboy with a punk edge.
The designer recently moved from her New York base to live in California so she would be nearer to her daughter and grandchildren. While her granddaughters, Ella, eight, and 10-year-old Layla, are too old to wear her new offerings, Betsey says they served as inspiration.
Prices ranges from $24.99 (£18.88) to $39.99 (£30.21).
