Balmain casts sisters for campaign

Olivier Rousteing focused on intimate connections for his latest Balmain campaign.

The brand’s creative director brought together famous siblings for the shoot, including supermodel Joan Smalls and her stunning sister Erika. Other shots feature Kendall and Kylie Jenner as well as Gigi and Bella Hadid.

Olivier came up with the theme after last year’s campaign featured Kim Kardashian and her husband Kanye West captured mid-embrace.

“While I watched Mario [Sorrenti] capture a kiss last fall, I was struck by the love and emotion that I was witnessing in front of me,” he said according to “Starting with a determination to once again focus on the beauty of an intimate connection, my team and I quickly concluded that a celebration of the unique and unconditional love of siblings is a natural progression from the spirit of last season.”

In their shot, Joan, 27, faces the camera with her back resting against her sister, who is posing sideways while also staring straight down the lens. Both wear their hair in a sweeping side parting and black and gold ensembles.

Meanwhile Kendall, 19 and her younger sister Kylie, 17, can be seen with heavy eye make-up and sparkling attire as they stare intently at each other with the younger sibling hovering over her relative.

Gigi and Bella’s shot features the most colour, as they both wear rusty red tones. Bella, 18, is leaning over and applying lipstick to her big sister’s mouth.

For Olivier, seeing the relatives on set was fascinating.

“Watching them work together also made clear to me the universality of an age-old truth: the truly powerful strength, support, and love that family members can provide to one another,” he added.
