Baja East makes CFDA/Vogue final

Baja East is among the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalists.

Carolina Herrera co-hosted the announcements at The Jane Hotel in New York yesterday, which revealed the ten finalists who will compete for a $400,000 top prize.

Among the contenders are Baja East, which consists of John Targon and Scott Studenberg. The duo are carving out a niche in the industry which they call "loose luxury".

They go up against Baldwin; Brother Vellies; Cadet; Chris Gelinas; Chromat; David Hart; Gypsy Sport; Jonathan Simkhai, and Thaddeus O’Neil.

The fund is in its 12th year and sees the program’s winner and two runners-ups receive business mentoring and financial support. What's even better for the contenders this year is that the top prize fund has been increased by $100,000 from last year, while the runner-up prizes have gone up to $150,000 each from $100,000 in the past five years.

This year’s selection committee sees Ken Downing, Neville and Marcus Wainwright, Mark Holgate, Jeffrey Kalinsky, Steven Kolb, Reed Krakoff, Jenna Lyons, Andrew Rosen, Diane von Furstenberg and Vogue editor Anna Wintour.

The board will start meeting all the finalists to assess their collections and studios. Over the next four months, the finalists will participate in special design and advertising challenges as well as staging a runway show at the Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood. It all leads up to the big announcement of the winner and runners-up on November 2.

Last year's winner was Paul Andrew with runners-up Eva Zuckerman of Eva Fehren and Ryan Roche.
