Armani opts for Paris over Milan for Emporio show
Giorgio Armani will hold his Emporio Armani spring fashion show in Paris this autumn.
The Italian designer stated on Wednesday (27Jul16) that his more accessible fashion line will go on show in the French capital in September (16), according to Reuters. Traditionally, the Armani collection shows are held in Milan, Italy each June for menswear and in September for womenswear, with the ranges typically featuring tailored suiting and chic dresses in a muted colour palette, ideal for the fashion conscious corporate customer. The haute couture Armani Prive collection has historically always been shown in Paris. Armani, 82, said the decision to move the presentation to Paris was made "exceptionally" for the season, shutting down any potential speculation that he may turn on the Milan catwalks for good.
"The restyling of the store and the EA Caffé in Saint-Germain (in Paris) have provided the opportunity to rethink the location and timing of the show," he said in a statement.
The company did not offer a date or location of where the Emporio Armani show may be held. However, Armani's pret-a-porter lines will hit the Paris catwalks starting on 27 September (16).
The show is an opportunity for the luxury group to showcase the Emporio line, as the Saint-Germain flagship closed in January (16) to undergo a complete makeover.
For the store’s reopening, the label hopes to unveil an entirely new store concept. Should the Emporio show go ahead as planned, it will be the first successful showing in the city. The store and cafe originally opened in 1998, with Armani planning a show there to celebrate the launch. However, the presentation was abruptly cancelled by Paris police, which shut down two elaborate tents that Armani had erected in the middle of the Left Bank, citing "security reasons".
