Aquazzura's Edgardo Osorio surrounds himself with women
Aquazzura's Edgardo Osorio finds his female friends to be a constant source of inspiration.
The designer founded the footwear brand five years ago and it’s now one of the hottest labels on the planet, landing him the Designer of the Year Award at the QVC Presents FFANY Shoes on Sale Gala in New York on Tuesday night (25Oct16).
Looking back at some of his career highlights, Edgardo puts many of his biggest accomplishments down to having strong female influence.
“The resort 15 collaboration with Poppy Delevingne was amazing. Launching the collection was an incredible success; she’s such a wonderful and cool girl,” he told Footwear News. “I’m lucky to have worked with incredible women in my life who inspire me and help me. As a male designer, you need to surround yourself with women, because what I do is for them.”
For fall 2016, Aquazzura teamed up with Spanish socialite and former model Naty Abascal, creating designs like hot pink pumps with gems on the toes and strappy gold stilettos. Edgardo learnt a lot from working with the fashionista and praises her knowledge of the industry thanks to living through "incredible eras".
He’s honoured to be receiving the Designer of the Year Award from FFANY, the Fashion Footwear Association of New York, and with 80 per cent of sales from the night donated to breast cancer research it’s even more meaningful for Edgardo.
“I just lost a family member (to breast cancer), so it’s a cause that’s quite dear to my heart,” he added. “We are very lucky to be doing what we’re doing, and we’re in an industry that is obviously going through a hard time, like other industries. We’re very blessed in what we do, and to give back needs to be part of the job.”
