Anya Hindmarch: I'm a little OCD
Anya Hindmarch's love of labels stems from her school days.
The British designer first began designing bags after becoming inspired by fashion during her time studying Italian in Florence aged 18.
Now, almost 30 years on, she's got famous fans in the form of Sienna Miller and Reese Witherspoon and has won accolades such as Designer of the Year at the British Fashion Awards. Speaking about what she keeps in her handbag, Anya revealed practicality in the form of handy labels is key.
"My life [is in my bag]! But although big, it is tidy," she laughed to style.com. "My children think I’m OCD. I love a label, which perhaps stems back to school when our names were stitched onto our gym kits. We have a collection of labelled items that create a place for everything, from 'Cables and Chargers' to ensure my phone always has juice and 'Girlie Stuff' for lip balm and some secret concealer to 'Remedies' for emergency Nurofen. I use them religiously."
Anya is constantly inspired by her surroundings, citing everything from people to chocolate as triggers for designs. Her Autumn/Winter 14 collection was inspired by a children's toy she spotted in an airport, proving that nothing is out of bounds.
For Anya, the most important aspect of designing handbags and accessories is making the pieces personal, such as allowing customers to have their names on them through her bespoke offerings.
"Bespoke is not a fashion collection but is made up of special items that seal a moment in time. We work with our customers to create pieces that will be handed down through generations," she explained. "You can find and customise anything from handbags to seating planners with embossing or drawings in your own handwriting, which is rather brilliant when children do it."
