ANTM star Renee Bhagwandeen on what it's like to be on the show
Former America’s Next Top Model contestant Renee Bhagwandeen found the show “refreshing and awesome”.
The stunning model appeared on cycle 20 of the popular Tyra Banks series in 2013, and made it to the top five but was beaten by eventual winner Jourdan Miller.
Far from being a negative experience, Renee enjoyed her time with the other models and managed to learn a lot about herself in the process.
“Everything I expected about the show was wrong,” she told popsugar.com. “I thought everyone would hate each other, and that I'd have to fight for a bed or steal someone's cab in a challenge. But to my surprise, being on the show was refreshing and awesome. I'd never been in an environment where people were so encouraging; even my fellow contestants believed I would succeed. I was overwhelmed. I'd never really had people support me like that, and it felt amazing.”
Renee is now signed to Next Model Management, the same agency who represents Lucky Blue Smith and Karlie Kloss.
Renee was already trying her luck as a model when her agent put her forward for the show, and after a missing a phone call from Tyra herself, producers let her know she’d made the cut. While she may not have gone home victorious, the experience fuelled her confidence.
“Being on the show gave me a lot of time — two and a half months, to be precise — to talk and think about my growth,” she shared. “The application alone had been 10 pages to fill out, all about me. Then there were the confessionals, which were all about how I felt about my work. I spoke to the judges about my performance and my hopes. I learned so much about myself and started to believe in my own strength and potential.”
