Anthony Vaccarello lined up to replace Slimane
Anthony Vaccarello has left Versus Versace and is reportedly being lined up to replace Hedi Slimane at Yves Saint Laurent.
On Sunday (03Apr16), it was announced that Anthony had stepped down from his role as creative director of Versus Versace, the younger, edgier sister brand of Versace. Donatella Versace, Vice President of the Versace Group confirmed the exit in a statement.
“While I’m sad to see him leave the Versace family, I wish Anthony Vaccarello tremendous success with his next chapter,” Donatella said.
Following Hedi’s departure as creative and image director of Yves Saint Laurent on Friday (01Apr16), insiders are tipping Anthony to be named as his replacement. It has been claimed that French luxury group Kering could announce the new appointment as soon as Monday (04Apr16). While Kering has declined to comment on the speculation, insiders insist the deal is as good as done.
"A deal has been signed,” a source told Reuters. “It should be announced on Monday."
The Belgian-Italian designer is renowned for his love of asymmetric designs and has released a series of takes on the ‘little black dress’.
It has been claimed that he is the natural replacement for Hedi because he will continue to produce ‘rock chic’ designs that have recently proved a success for Yves Saint Laurent.
According to insiders, by accepting the Saint Laurent role Anthony has agreed to focus completely on the brand and put his own eponymous label – which he started in 2010 - on the side-lines.
Reports linking Anthony to Saint Laurent began circulating in January (16), but he insisted the claims were merely “a rumour” at his Paris Fashion Week Show.
The designer was unveiled as creative director of the Versace Versus line last year (15).
