Anna Sui reissues iconic designs
Anna Sui has collaborated with Opening Ceremony to reissue her iconic ‘90s designs.
The American designer, known for her punk rock-inspired and whimsical approach to fashion, has teamed up with the luxury retailer to re-release cult pieces from Sui’s 1993 Grunge Collection and 1994 Punk Collection.
The new Anna Sui x Opening Ceremony collection features cropped T-shirts with Sui’s signature butterfly logo, chokers, baby doll dresses, velvet mini-dresses with side splits as well as flared burgundy-coloured satin trousers.
Sui’s partnership with Opening Ceremony’s is part of the retailer's ongoing Year of China concept, which they launched during the Lunar New Year in February (16).
Opening Ceremony’s Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, who are also the creative directors of French brand Kenzo, are presenting capsule collections with Sui, who has Chinese heritage, as well as Vivienne Tam and Pearl River Mart - the famous SoHo emporium that is exiting its Broadway location due to rising rents.
Opening Ceremony will also show a selection of mainland China-based brands - including Angel Chen, Ximon Lee, Huiman by Guong Zou and Decoster - in their stores.
Earlier in the year (16), Leon revealed he had been considering showcasing Chinese designers in store since 2011.
“When we first went out there, there was definitely a feeling that the young designers in China, as much as they have the resources at their finger tip, really needed to get their production quality up to international standards," he told WWD. “It’s been a longish process but they’re definitely there.”
Sui’s brand now extends to include several fashion lines, footwear, cosmetics, fragrance and accessories, with her products sold in over 50 countries.
Prices for the Anna Sui x Opening Ceremony range from $310 (£216) to $695 (£485) and are available in store and online.
