Anna Sui: Bohemia runs through my work
Anna Sui thinks the key to staying young forever is doing what you love.
The American fashion designer is one of the biggest names in the industry, offering everything from clothing to cosmetics.
She may have covered a lot of ground with her work, but Anna always sticks to one particular vibe when catering to her customers.
"It’s still always that same thing, and no matter where I go with the collection, Vikings or Pre-Raphaelites, there’s still that bohemian girl there. That was always my ideal. As much as I try to veer away from it, there are always a couple of those Michelle Phillips and Joni Mitchells in the collection. Through every collection you can find them," she smiled to style.com.
"I think loving what you do [is the key to staying young]. You can’t ask for more. This is what I wanted to do since I was four years old, and just the fact that I’m able to do it and do it globally - I work in Japan and I work in Europe and I work in New York - it’s kind of a dream."
Anna has been in the business for a while now after having begun her empire making garments in her apartment. To ensure she keeps up to date with the ever-changing trends she does a lot of research, revealing that she loves "going into the rabbit hole" of learning new things. One way in which she does this is by taking note of her surroundings and what's popular in the media.
"I always try to bring it all back, make it current, and tie it in to something that’s happening in our pop culture, like the Viking thing. It’s really true - I was watching [the History channel TV series] and I got that idea. It wasn’t an intellectual idea, but that’s really how it happened," she added.
