Alexander Wang rumoured to be teaming with Adidas

Alexander Wang is reportedly collaborating with Adidas on a collection.

The American designer and the German sportswear giant will unveil their project after Wang's upcoming presentation for his eponymous label during New York Fashion Week, according to WWD. Wang is scheduled to present his latest line at 9pm on 10 September (16), with a launch party expected to be held after the show. Should the rumours be true, Wang, 32, would be the latest addition to Adidas' growing list of designer partnerships, with the likes of Stella McCartney, Rick Owens, Raf Simons and Yohji Yamamoto all collaborating on various lines previously.

British designer McCartney first launched a joint-venture with Adidas in 2004 with her popular gymwear collection "adidas by Stella McCartney", which has since grown to include outfits for running, tennis, swimming and yoga. And there's also Adidas' successful business with rapper Kanye West, who launched his much anticipated Yeezy collection of leisurewear and shoes in 2015. Last month (Jun16), Adidas and West revealed they are planning to ramp up their line, with Adidas + Kanye West, which is described as a "Yeezy-branded entity creating footwear, apparel and accessories for all genders across street and sport."

New York-based Wang, who was also creative director at Balenciaga until last year (15), has built his brand around urban streetwear and athletic designs, mainly in a monochromatic palette. Not a far cry from Adidas' Originals ethos, Wang's 2014 H&M collaboration was also very athletic and included casual outfits for both men and women, as well as a selection of his famed accessories.

The report comes as Wang has moved to take the business and creative reigns of his company, with it announced last month (Jun16) that the designer would be taking on the roles of CEO and chairman while remaining creative director. Wang replaced current CEO Aimie Wang (his sister-in-law) and chairwoman Ying Wang (his mother), who founded the company with the designer and his brother in 2005.
