Alexander Wang isn't held back by past
Alexander Wang is surprised by his ability to move on from bad experiences.
The fashion designer launched his eponymous label in 2005 and landed another big role in 2012 when he was named creative director of Balenciaga.
After a decade in the industry his career is booming and after recently confirming his departure from Balenciaga, Alexander is looking to the future.
"My agility to move on," he told WWD when asked what the single biggest surprise of his career has been. "Whenever I feel like the worst thing has happened and something didn’t go as I thought it would go, I always feel [bad], like, you know. But the next day, the show’s got to move on. I feel like I really surprise myself on being able to move on when things don’t go the way that you perceive."
He's learnt some valuable lessons over the last ten years. One of these is to never feel as though he's sussed everything out, as he can never predict what's going to happen on the job.
Last month (Aug15) it was rumoured Alexander is looking to seal a deal with an investor for his namesake brand.
Running a venture so close to his heart means the style star pays close attention to his customers.
"I like to think of my girl as someone who really has a less precious way of approaching fashion," he explained. "She enjoys it, she loves it, but she really takes things and places them out of context. She doesn’t poke fun at fashion but she likes to have fun with it."
Alexander showed his Spring/Summer 16 collection as part of New York Fashion Week earlier this month (Sept15). The line was packed full of easy-to-wear pieces that reflected his decade in the business. Jeans, T-shirts and sweatshirts were given a stylish touch to make a wearable, relaxed offering.
