Adam Selman: 'Cat-eye glasses are ageless'
Designer Adam Selman thinks cat-eye glasses have “passed the test of time”.
The womenswear expert has teamed up with Le Specs for a sunglasses collection, injecting a fresh feel to its Last Lolita frame among others. He’s already won over some big fans with his shades, including model of the moment Gigi Hadid who has posed in a pair on her Instagram page, and Adam is confident his creations will never go out of date.
“Cat-eyes are utterly feminine and really make a cool statement,” he told Vogue Australia. “If they're right, they can be retro without feeling vintage, blending the past and the present. They've passed the test of time, and they just look good.”
The collection hit stores on 1 September (16) and for those unsure about where to start with picking sunglasses for themselves, Adam shared some pearls of wisdom. He urges people to pick frames that make them “feel something” as he believes the accessories are capable of transformation.
“Even the worst outfit can be turned around with the right shades,” he smiled.
His clothing has gained recognition in the industry and in June (16) he was confirmed as a finalist for the 2016 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund award, which will be presented in November (16). He’ll be competing against the likes of Stampd by Chris Stamp, Ji Oh, and Morgan Lane by Morgan Curtis , and if successful, Adam will win $400,000 (£301,405).
“It's a huge honour and has really made me think about the structure of how I work and create,” Adam, whose famous clients include singer Rihanna, told Vogue Australia. “I've been dreaming of doing this for a long time, so it's amazing to see it actually happen. It's definitely a big deal and a huge focus of mine at the moment, but I l do love a challenge!”
