Gender fluid RTÉ newsreader Jonathan-Rachel Cynch comfortably strolled to work today wearing heels and a scarf with matching trousers and bag.

Last month the veteran broadcaster told RTÉ bosses that he would be attending work in a ‘gender fluid female persona’.

It has been reported that RTÉ support his decision fully.

Many of his colleagues saw him in women's clothing and make up for the first time last month when he attended a meeting at Montrose.

Gender fluidity means that sometimes the person identifies more as a male and at others more as a female.

An official statement from RTÉ said: "[We], both as an employer and broadcaster, value the uniqueness of individuals and encourage diversity and equality.

"We are 100 pc supportive of Jonathan Rachel who is a valued member of staff and a highly respected journalist."

Clynch is best known as an anchor, reporter and researcher on RTE's flagship News at One programme on Radio 1 and he has worked at Montrose for 16 years.
