Winter-proof your beauty routine

Winter is coming, and not just for the warriors of Game of Thrones. It can feel like we have to batten down the hatches against the elements, but the changing seasons can also give you the opportunity to nourish and pamper yourself ahead of next summer’s big reveal. The changing seasons also mean a necessary upgrade to your beauty routine to keep skin plump in the face of indoor heating, and outdoor chills, as well a all those layers you’ll be hiding under. With just a few product “switcheroos” you can winter-proof your face and body to keep out dryness and add in plenty of moisture.

Swap gel, foaming or exfoliating cleansers for a milky cleanser

During the winter you’ll need something a lot more nourishing for your skin. Adding a milky cleanser to your beauty routine is as good for your skin as downing a litre of water. Swapping a foaming or gel cleanser for a creamy one like Burt's Bees Intense Hydration Cream Cleanser, or Lancome Creme Mousse Comfort, will help your skin adjust to the colder, drier weather outdoors and ensure that skin won't continue to be stripped of extra oil or hydration at home, too.

Add an intensive moisturiser

During the winter, clay masks can be pretty dehydrating on already parched skin. So replace a clay or detoxifying mask with an intensive moisturiser. Skin replenishing products like Kiehl's Ultra Facial Moisturizer Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30 hydrate better than lotions because the ingredients that make them creamy help to trap moisture in skin. The same rule applies to eye cream, and products like Murad’s Eye Lift Firming Treatment will really plump up fine lines by delivering much-needed extra hydration.

Switch from night cream to a night oil

Autumn and winter are the perfect times to incorporate an oil into your skincare routine. Switching up your night cream for an oil like Neal’s Yard antioxidant Rosehip Oil, an excellent source of vitamins and skin-nourishing fatty acids, will keep skin soft, plump, and supple. Plus, is also has the opportunity to soak in overnight for extra smooth skin.

Add a fragrant bath oil to your routine

A relaxing bath oil is perfect for the crisper days and nights ahead. Choose one laden with essential oils such as Olverum Bath Oil, with its fragrances of eucalyptus, lavender and rosemary which will not only leave skin soft and hydrated, but will help you sleep gloriously.

For gym bunnies pushing through winter-training, it’s great for easing aching or sore muscles and is also a fantastic soother if your experiencing colds or flu.
