Tried & Tested: Spring nails

Darker nail tones still look great in the spring, but it's also nice to add a few lighter shades to your nail varnish collection. Think mint, lilac and different blue tones. We road test some of spring's newest colours to find out what you should be buying this season.

Models Own Lilac Icing – 2/5

This is one of a new range of five pastel polish shades, dubbed perfect for the spring season. Once you see them you’ll get while they are called icing – a couple of coats and you look like you’ve dipped your nails in the sugary top of a cake! I love the colours, even if the lilac was more pink than I expected, but they definitely look best on darker skin tones. Two coats gives good coverage, but unfortunately I got chips in 24 hours. The polish isn’t pricy so I don’t expect the earth, although I think at least a couple of full days’ wear is fair.

Prabal Gurung for Sally Hansen in Teesta Turquoise - 3.5/5

This is one of the latest offerings Prabal has created for Sally Hansen and the vibrant colour is definitely enough to get you feeling spring-like. It dries pretty quickly and the little bit of varnish that went onto my skin came off nice and easily. While I'm not a massive turquoise lover myself it would look fab with a tan if taken on a spring-time holiday and it'll stand out even more against darker skin tones. Just make sure to add a top coat as it did chip a little after less than a week!

Nail Geek Peppermint - 4/5

At first I wasn't sure about this icy mint colour as I'm quite fair and thought it may make my fingers look corpse-like. But I was wrong! The cool shade gave a fresh finish to my manicure, and I enjoyed wearing a barely there colour. For staying power I'd say it was better than average, and with a top coat lasted a good two days before I noticed any chipping, and then it was only on my first two fingers. A few quick touch ups and I was ready to show off my hands again.

Makeup Revolution Trust me - 2.5/5

I really like the jewel tone of this nail varnish, and it looked nice on my nails after two coats. However it didn't last too long. The colour was intense though, and is a great choice for a night out. Use a base and top coat as well, so it can last that bit longer.
