Tried & tested: Eyeshadow palettes
Who isn’t a sucker for a shiny new eyeshadow palette? So many colours, so many combos! We’ve rounded up the latest palettes to hit the shelves to give you a head start in choosing you perfect product.
Eye of Horus Sekhmet Smokey Shadow Palette - 4/5
This trio of shadows is designed to create the perfect smoky eye. With a matte sand and a shimmering silver and black included, it's all you need to get that sexy, mysterious look. I like the mirror and two-ways brush included; it means you can top up your make-up on the go. My only criticism is that the black goes on a bit too lightly at first. It's good for building up gradually but doesn't work for more dramatic looks.
Too Faced Sugar Pop Palette - 4/5
These candy coloured shades are so pretty, you almost don't want to break into them. The Bubblegum pink was a bit too bold for my liking, but the Macaroon, Rock Candy and Peach Fuzz made cute daytime options. Malted Pink Ball on the other hand, with its golden undertones, looks great with black eyeliner for a twist on the smokey eye. And I can't not mention the adorable tin case it comes it, covered in macaroon print. The prettiest palette on the market this year!
Lancôme Hypnôse Star Eyes Palette - 5/5
A smokey eye doesn't need to be a mystery any more with this palette, as there's a step by step guide on the compact's mirror on where to apply each of the five shades on your eye. It also tells you which of the three different brush ends to do it with for maximum effect, a real bonus if you're a novice like me. The fact that you can use the colours wet or dry adds even more versatility and I found the colours stayed in place on my eye lids for ages without slipping into the creases. Perfecto!
Urban Decay Naked Smoky - 4/5
The Naked range of palettes have become some of the most iconic, and this is the latest incarnation. There are 12 shades which help you achieve the classic smoky eye, with a lovely brush and directions on how to get three different looks. As always the shadows are creamy and easy to blend, with a range of sparkle and matte shades. For classic smoky eyes this is a great palette, but you don't get anything hugely exciting with it.
