Tried and tested: wonderful watermelon

Tried and tested: wonderful watermelon

It’s the juicy fruit that instantly refreshes on a hot summer’s day, and melon fans around the world tucked into the water variety on Watermelon Day yesterday. To celebrate we’ve chosen a watermelon-themed tried and tested this week, rounding up some of the best watermelon-inspired products currently out there.

ESPA Skin Radiance Intensive Serum – 4/5

While the watermelon seed oil in this lovely serum makes it a great choice for Watermelon Day, the other skin boosting ingredients will have your face thanking you all year round. I used this, as instructed, after cleansing and toning, rubbing a light layer into my skin, which absorbed pretty quickly. It left my skin feeling and looking bright and hydrated after a few uses, and has quickly become a staple in my skincare routine.

Essie Nail Lacquer in Watermelon - 4/5

Watermelon has a great fresh fragrance, but there’s something about the fruit’s pink-red colour that it totally captivating. Essie has captured the summery hue with their Watermelon nail polish, a flattering shade for all skin tones which falls somewhere between a warm coral and a true hot pink. For best results, apply two coats for the lacquer for an opaque finish, and add a top coat – your manicure should be chip-free for at least five days!

Philosophy Melon Daiquiri Shampoo, Shower Gel & Bubble Bath – 3/5

Nothing I’ve used has ever smelt as watermelon-y as this product from Philosophy. I decided to use it as a shower gel to see how long the scent remains on my skin afterwards and I was pretty overwhelmed when I opened the bottle; yes, it certainly smelt like the fruit, but an over-exaggerated, sweet version. The consistency is rich and creamy, with a little going a long way, however I’m not quite sold on the overwhelming aroma. It definitely isn’t an everyday wash, but it could be pulled out for a luxurious touch every now and then.
