Tried and tested: Summer lips

As we all know a new season brings a new raft of beauty products, and this week we're focusing on the lips. Whether you want to get your in good condition so you can invest in a new lipstick or find out which shades are the best for Spring/Summer 15, we have you covered.

Max Factor Colour Intensifying Balm in Sumptuous Candy - 4/5

I'm either a lipstick or Vaseline type of girl depending on the occasion, but luckily this balm incorporates the benefits of both into one stick. The pink shade looks nice and subtle with one application and can be built up with another layer to look bolder if you have a night out ahead. It's a feminine, summery colour and has a lovely moisturising finish. A handbag must-have.

Ciaté London Lip Chalk in Berry-Go-Round - 5/5

Initially one word sprang to mind when I heard the name of this product: dry. I was sure anything called 'chalk' would suck the life out of my lips and probably only come in pastel shades, but I was dead wrong. This is a bold pink crayon which gets its name because of the matte texture, but unlike others it doesn't leave you needing to moisturise your lips. The chalk is easy to apply, the pencil stays sharp and the colour doesn't wear off - in fact you'll need to scrub to remove it! I can't fault it.

Zelens The Balm - 4/5

This is a lip balm with a difference as it's supposed to have anti-ageing properties. It contains retinol to boost collagen and help with skin renewal, so should leave lips feeling smooth and nourished. That was definitely the case for me, it was like a super-charged hydration injection. I knocked a point off because the balm is quite pale, almost like suntan cream, and I prefer mine clear.

Transformulas Lip Volume - 3/5

Everything seems to be about big lips right now, just look at Kylie Jenner! But if you don't fancy fillers or sucking a glass (disclaimer: don't try this at home), then Transformulas is the next best thing. It promises a fuller pout without the surgery thanks to collagen stimulators. When I first applied this, I was a bit put off by the tingling sensation but you quickly get used to it. After continued use I definitely noticed a change, but you do have to apply it three times a day for 30 days, so don't expect a quick fix!

LA Splash Lip Couture in Lollipop 4/5

LA Splash are big news in America, and have recently rolled out to the UK (available at The Lip Couture looked like a gloss in the bottle, but went on like lipstick giving a rich and full coverage. The colour was certainly bright, and would make a great addition to your suitcase when you go on holiday. It comfortably stayed put after food and drink and lasted for hours before a top up was needed. It left my lips quite dry though, so I had to put some Vaseline over the top.
