Tried and Tested: Sheet masks

Despite looking like you're wearing a Halloween mask, sheet masks are actually a great tool when you want to revitalise your complexion. We've tried out a selection this week to let you know which ones you might love, and which you should leave.

When The Last Choice - 2.5/5

There are several masks in the When arsenal, including ones to use before a night out and if you're travelling a lot. This version is for skin which is dehydrated and it has hyaluronic acid and ginseng extracts in it. My skin tends towards dry/dehydrated at the best of times and recently it's been feeling tight, so this sounded ideal. Unfortunately I found it hard to keep in place and although my skin felt nourished at first, an hour later it was crying out for moisturiser.

Sarah Chapman Skinesis 3D Moisture Infusion Mask - 5/5

When something promises "dramatic results" and that it will "hydrate, smooth and plump", my beauty juices start flowing. It's not often I use something which has an instant effect on my skin, but this does. I have 'laughter' lines at the sides of my mouth and after using this they had plumped up so much they disappeared. Fine lines around my eyes also looked better and although the effect didn't last for days, 24 hours later my skin still looked healthier.

Jamela 24k Gold Facial Sheet Masks - 4/5

These gold collagen masks are used in spas including Champneys so I couldn't wait to bring a bit of that luxury home with me. I'd recommend using these while lying down A) because it's relaxing and B) because they will slide all over the place otherwise! They feel very comfortable and my skin was soft to the touch after. Perfect for a midweek pick-me-up or weekend treat.

Timeless Truth Mask Bio Cellulose Bee Venom and Royal Jelly Mask - 3.5/5

I'd never used a sheet mask before I tried this, and could not believe how freaky I looked! That aside, I enjoyed the experience of laying there with a cool-feeling gel over my face - though there is a LOT of gel on this mask, which made it messy to handle both before and after application. My skin felt smooth and plumped after, but I can't say I noticed a drastic difference.

Guinot NEWHITE Instant Brightening Mask - 4/5

The smell of the mask was pretty potent when it came out the pack and made my eyes water slightly when I stuck it on my face. It was super nourishing though and rested neatly around my eyes, nose and mouth. I left it on for 10 minutes and by the time I took it off, there wasn't as much liquid/gel left on my skin as I thought there'd be. After rubbing in the excess I instantly noticed my complexion was smoother and shinier (and not because it was greasy). It's definitely something I'd use every month or so to brighten things up, as it really does what it says on the box.
