Tried and Tested: Post-shave products
We recently sought out and tested newest razors on the market, so it's only natural to track down the best post-shave products out there. Whether you need to ease dry skin or just want smoother feeling legs, we've got it covered. We look at some of the top products to reach for after the razor.
Egyptian Magic All Purpose Skin Cream - 4/5
This is a cult classic, so I was looking forward to giving it a go. Unlike the cream moisturiser I usually reach for after shaving, this is a balm. You have to give it a good rub to get enough out to cover a whole leg, but surprisingly a little goes a long way. The balm takes on an oil consistency on application, making it easy to glide over the skin. It worked a treat, which might have something to do with being packed full of "six of nature's most powerful moisturising and healing ingredients." It worked particularly well under the arms, with no shaving rash in sight. It takes a while to absorb though, so a better choice for night time.
Ameliorate Skin Smoothing Body Lotion – 4/5
Just like most women I always moisturise after shaving because if I don’t my skin feels tight and I get flaky patches. I tried this because it’s supposed to help with the skin’s natural exfoliation process – specifically it’s designed to help women with keratosis pilaris, or chicken skin to the uninitiated. I have that on the backs of my arms and it definitely helped, but even if you don’t this is a great post-shave option. The smell is light and fresh and it packs a real hydration boost, I found it made my hair-free legs feel much smoother than other products. It does take a little while to sink in though.
Bliss Ingrown Hair Eliminating Pads - 4/5
I was a little sceptical about using these at first as I could smell them before I saw them; they have a pungent scent similar to what you'd expect from a nail polish remover. However, they didn't sting upon application and after using for a few days after I shaved I noticed there were less bumps than I'd normally expect. They're small but powerful little pads so one is enough for good coverage - an easy and simple solution to ingrown hairs!
