Tried and tested: Party lips

'Tis the season to be jolly, which basically means loads of parties and nights out. We round up a few ideas to give your lips an instant party vibe.

MAC Lipstick in Chili -2.5/5

Red lips are synonymous with glamour, but many women are scared of the scarlet. Christmas/ New Year can be a great time to experiment with red, and this colour from MAC isn't as vibrant as other pillar box red versions. The shade is strong, but with a subtle edge meaning your lips won't attract too much attention (unless you want them to that is!). The colour lasts ages, but be warned; this is very drying. Make sure to add a slick of balm after, otherwise lips soon look flaky.

Rimmel's The Only 1 lipstick in Under My Spell - 3/5

This seductive lipstick is a really deep berry colour, which looks dramatic on wintry, pale skin but also works well on darker complexions - a great all rounder! It lasts without drying out, taking me through an entire office Christmas party with ease. My only gripe is with the shape of the lipstick. It's flat at the top, which makes it difficult to apply along the curve of the lips.

YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick in Prune Avenue - 3.5/5

This deep shade isn't for the faint hearted and should only be worn in serious party situations, making it the perfect choice for festive fun! It's best applied with a brush so the colour can build up, and a moisturising base coat is recommended as it's quite a dry finish. A tissue blot is also a must as the bold colour could easily rub onto your teeth - not a good look when you're trying to flirt with the hot single guy at the bash! Best paired with a simple eye look so all the attention is on your lips.
