Tried and tested: new mascaras

Whether you’re after long lashes or amped up volume, there’s a flurry of new mascaras hitting shelves that will fulfil all your eyelash needs. We look at what’s hot in the world of lash love right now.

Revlon All-In-One mascara – 4.5

It takes a bold brand to discontinue all of its existing mascaras and replace them with a completely new line, and that’s exactly what Revlon recently did. The absolute gem in the fresh Revlon Mascara Collection is the fresh All-In-One mascara, designed to simplify the approach to our lash needs. This product really does it all; volumise, lengthen, define, lift and give a shot of intense colour to boot. All of these boxes are firmly ticked, leaving lashes long and lifted all day. No drop here! Strangely though it doesn’t have as big an impact on bottom lashes, so those after doll-like eyes may need to use a separate product for your lower lash line.

Illamasqua Masquara Gain - 5/5

This mascara has a great spear shaped wand which works to volumise, lengthen and define lashes in one sweeping stroke. Illamasqua also claims that the jet black formula contains an active derived from walnut which gently tints lashes after progressive use. As my lashes are already quite dark, I didn’t notice much difference, but really liked the clump-free and long-lasting formula. For best use, wiggle the brush towards the base of the lash and then use the tip of the applicator to define the lower lashline.

Suqqu Natural Curl - 4/5

Suqqu’s oil-based formula gives you a natural curl while still nourishing lashes so you avoid that brittle feeling you sometimes get from waterproof formulas. It’s jet black which I love, and creates a firm curled eyelash, but it’s not particularly lengthening. The slim wand is perfect for those with shorter eyelashes, and you can really get in the corners and lower lashes with it. I love the conditioning feel it gives my lashes, and the smouldering black colour.

Sisley So Intense Curl Mascara - 4/5

This mascara has a curled wand, which I've always been sceptical about, but it actually works in this case. It's easy to apply, doesn't clump my lashes together and adds a good amount of length as well as shape. The first time I applied it I wasn't overwhelmed with the results, but over time I've become a big fan and will definitely be using this product on a daily basis, with two coats enough to make my eyes pop.
